Which is Superior...AMD Turion 64 X2 or the Intel Dual Core?

Hi People, After reading a review of an HP laptop on PCWorld.com it seems clear to me that the initial testing seems to indicate that the Intel Core Duo (as of now) is a far superior processor compared to AMD's Turion 64X2. However, I am somewhat heistant to relinquish the speed and performance title to Intel, only after a review of ONE laptop. If any of you have further comments and or thoughts in regards to which processor is superior please let me know (if you have any other direct performance comparisons or reviews that would be great!). While I am not an Intel hater, I would say I prefer the underdog characteristic of AMD, but at the end of day I will ultimately choose the superior processor in making my decision for purchasing a laptop.

  1. There is no doubt u can go for Intel
  2. Go to Tom's Hardware. You can google them. They do reviews on most hardware and they are fairly non-biased. As a general rule, AMD has been putting out better stuff than Intel LATELY. But technology changes so quickly, that Intel might be poking for the lead again. It also depends on what you are using it for. Anyway, go to the website and check it out.
  3. dear member, AMD is always cheaper and better performance overall but to see for yourself, go to http://www.tomshardware.com for reviews on these chips. Intel is always trying to catch up and stay dominant in the processor market but AMD always makes it big in the end, especially gaming. kind regards, ben
  4. it's like apples to oranges........AMD is geared towards gaming.......Intel is geared toward business......real question is what do you want to do with the computer!?
  5. Turion's usually for laptops, and Dual Core should be better. My dad is a computer specialist person =P
  6. This would depend greatly on the motherboard, RAM and other things in the box. I have to agree with you, that it would be best to wait for more benchmark tests. It might be fun to get BOINC and do their standard benchmark test, then look at the results of other users. I would love to have more benchmark test results at my Yahoo Group. Join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KeepYourComputerAlive/ Click on Database then click on Benchmark - BOINC Benchmark Test Results
  7. allways go with amd i have been building systems for years and use amd in every one most of the repair jobs i get called out on are intel
  8. Well, there are lots of opinions and lots of fan boys. Though my current CUP runs with AMD, I planned to upgrade to Intel for time being. As for this moment, Intel seems to be the best choice but make sure your motherboard chipset is a good one coz it also plays a major role. Don't worry, they'll face off again probably in November on QUAD core ") For your info ; http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/14/core2_duo_knocks_out_athlon_64/
  9. my sympathies to the underdog too ! i have to work hard for my money & i'm not into charity the 256 kb l2 cache & presently 512 kb l2cache on the turin 64 x2 are simply pathetic ... even a celeron m has 1 mb l2 cache & i call that poor besides the 2mb l2 cache in the intel's, it's architecture & build is good & proven and work just fine 4 me
  10. Personally I believe the Turion 64 X2's 64Bit capabilities, which the Intel Core Duo lacks (called EM64T by Intel), will be crucial to the operation of Windows Vista, as computing moves on further into the 64bit realm.
