Intel Computer

AMD vs INTEL the battle continues?

dell is quickly switching to AMD yay! but one thing confuses me. over and over again i see people keeping just one intel processor. core two duo. whats so damn special i know its a good processor as intel goes but i was under the impression that AMD always outmatches intel. ive seen lots of sidebyside comparisons but never anything vs core two duo. is it really that good? better than any amd product? athlon and opteron are responses to xeon and pentium so why sint ther ea response to this core 2 thing? any side by side comparisons ? capabilities and actual tests. overclocking etc. first of all opteron is coming out in quad form soon secondly its a response to xeon not core thirdly duo isnt the name of the processor its a discription fourthly opterons are expensive up the ass and id like a cheaper alternative. i just want the side by side comparison

  1. The new duo just beats AMD in any tests hand over foot. It just does. DUO is a response to AM2 socket processors and duo is a dual core, so like having 2 processors in one . AMD will surely bring out something soon enough to combat the upcoming quad core Intel Processors.
  2. well, AMD is cheaper for the same product, if you want to save money go with them.
  3. i havent seen anything either but from what i understand only thing about the Duo is has the ability to multitask without using as much memory as a single processor
  4. thanx to amd intel has a duo core i think u know that but one thing although intel may have had a lot of propaganda on the intel amd has just released new opterons that are server processors that r way better than the intel core 2 i know that bc my cousin has an intel core 2 duo extreme and i have an amd opteron my cousins is a 2.93 while mine is a 2.8 and my opteron still beats the intel core 2 and also the new athlon fx beats the core 2 duo at gaming because it was specifically designed for gaming and nothing else.
  5. Try this link on for size. You'll see that even the best AMD chip (FX-62) overclocked is beaten by the 3rd best Intel Core 2 Duo (E6600) at stock speeds. Intel is the best right now. To top that all off, the E6600 is like 320 bucks while the FX-62 is still over $800 It figures that now Dell is switching over. :-) Better late than never Dell!
  6. AMD has never been better then Intel at everything. For a long time the general statement of "AMD Is better for gaming, and Intel is better for multitasking" Right now, the Intel Core 2 Duo is a better bang for the buck for just about anything. It kicks the AMD Athlon64 X2 but, It has so much hype bexcauseit's true. The Core 2 duo is just better and that's all there is to it. This is coming from an AMD fan and owner by the way.(I only have an A64+3500 though.) The thing is, The X2 line of AMD processors have been out way longer then the Coe 2 duo, so what can you expect? The newest is always going to be better, because thats what it was made to do, be better then the competitors product. In January, AMD is going to release there Quad Core CPU's which are most likely going to kill the Core 2 Duo. Although we can't be sure until it really does come out. If you want to buy or build a new PC now, Intel core 2 duo is definatly the way to go. If you can wait a few months, I would definatly at least wait for the AMD Quad core's to come and see how they compare. Even if for some reason they aren't as good, It'll drive the prices down of the Core 2 duo either way, although I assume the AMD Quad cores will be better. I have faith, but I have also had my faith crushed and swallowed before, so we'll just have to see! P.S...Please don't listen to fel....Not only is the FX-62 a ton more expensive, It really isn't as good as your claiming it is compared to the high end Core 2 Duos. look at benchmarks.
  7. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/14/core2_duo_knocks_out_athlon_64/ Clearly intel's new processors uses less energy and still packs a punch...it's like a centrino and a pentium D combined...
  8. well the thing that makes the intel duo so popular it runs cooler than any other processor out there...a lot cooler than any amd....thus you can overclock the crap out of them way more than any other processor...that is probably the biggest reason. AMD is good but cant compete against the duo's. Intel is comming out with a processor that hase 4 cores (clover) on a chip....which is really cool but pretty much not worth the money cause no software is written to take advantage of it.. AMD is trying to hang with there 4core chip they call it the 4X4 which makes no since at all cause 4x4 is 16 not 4...dont really get that...they are getting dumb.
  9. Core 2 Duo right now is better hands down. Go to any well known benchmarking fan sites and you'll see why. It's nothing new to the business. AMD and Intel take turns being the King of the Hill until the next product comes out. Right now AMD doesn't have a product that can compete on performance or power consumption with Core 2 Duo, so right now they're competing solely on value. This will be the case until they release their next product.
  10. intel core 2 ( or Conroe ) is the answer of Intel to AMD FX ( dual core ) : athlon64 fx 60 & 62 ( contains 2 of fx55 ). personally , i don't trust in intel. amd fx is perfect 4 games , 3d software , & multitasking . wait 4 amd response. it will come soon! if u want to buy a processor , buy a amd , is my advice. reasons: a better price , low consum. , more power . intel say about core 2 : is good 4 bussines & office. that's all! amd ( fx ) is good 4 everything! in a same time - internet , games , dvd record , downloads , office , watch movies ... aaaaa..... opteron is 4 laptop or server . now we talk about desktops...
