which is better processor between INTEL PENTIUM 4 3.0GHZ and AMD SEPMRON 3000+ 64-bit?

Although both are quite old model, but i just want a comparison.. 1) INTEL PENTIUM 4 @ 3.0ghz socket 478 has: NO 64 bit support L2 cache - 1mb single core 2) AMD SEMPRON @ 3000+ socket 754 has: 64 bit support L2 cache 128kb single core. Now, what is the function of "L2 cache?" intel has great L2 cache but has no 64 bit suport, while AMD has less L2 cache, but has 64 bit support. What will be your choice according to its performance? Thank you

1. In my book, Sempron = Celeron. both junk.
2. The Intel Pentium is far better than a Sempron. 64 bit computing isn't an advantage at the present so you don't need it.
3. The Intel, simply because it has a better core clock. The Intel will also cost more money though.
4. The Pentium will blow that Sempron away!! 64 bit support is only good if you have the software and operating system to run it. As fare as L2 cache: Short for Level 2 cache, cache memory that is external to the microprocessor. In general, L2 cache memory, also called the secondary cache, resides on a separate chip from the microprocessor chip. Although, more and more microprocessors are including L2 caches into their architectures.
5. the intel one is definitely better. they do have dual core's out now too, 2 are always better than one.
6. i would get the Intel.but the AMD is newer.if you arn't going to be getting into 64bit than Intel if you want to use 64bit OS etc. than you will want AMD.they both should be about the same speed.The L2 cache can buffer the info and make it quicker to acsses it.the more the L2 the more it can store closer to the chip.In this case BIGGER l2 IS BETTER.
7. Go for the INTEL PENTIUM 4 @ 3.0ghz socket 478. The L2 cache stores frequently used data , which will accelerate the system. And 1MB will hold a lot more data , than the weak 128KB on the Sempron. The sempron is too slow. It's a crippled chip don't buy it. You will never use 64bit, trust me. I have a 64bit chip and I will not be using 64bit for some time still.
8. The Pentium would be a better choice. But... if you compare an Athlon 64 to a 3.0ghz p-4, and they have same l2, the 64 bit is actually quite an useful thing. The next get windows (vista) will have alot more features for the 64bit version.
9. The Sempron line sucks, and the p4 line is mediocre. If you want to go go AMD, go att least athlon 64.
10. The Amd 64 bit support is a marketing lure. It is not full support, just an extension like Intel's. Intel does not say 64 bit support because they feel it is a lie, and did not want to stoop down to Amd level in marketing. The comparison from CPU to CPU - the Amd Sempron is faster. L2 cache acts as a buffer between the CPU, ram, to help avoid bottle necks. The best choice is the Intel DUO series CPU chip hands down. The Intel quad CPU is also available but too costly.
