Which make of processors are better, AMD or Intel?

Many people have told me that AMD are much better due to price comparison and the fact that they are 64 bit processors, as intel processors are only 32 bit. Can anyone tell me which make really is better or suggest an alternative maker?

  1. Well intel is better but AMD is good for Gaming so i would recommend you Intel quad core or dual core!
  2. they are both 64 bit, and intel makes the better processors, AMD just rips them off. I do have an AMD processor in my machine but intel is the way to go. I would spend the few extra pennies to get a comparable intel processor over an AMD.
  3. The only difference is in the very highest-end chips - Intel generally (but not always) has the quickest on the market. Lower down the market, into the realms you're likely to be interested in - not really much difference besides price (AMD are cheaper for a comparable chip). Both are stable - AMDs tend to run a little cooler, and tend to be more friendly to over-clockers. The people above who state 'intel is better', or 'amd rip intel off', know nothing.
  4. The question is better for doing what ? A Quad core processor is only faster than a single core if you are running software written to use it (which most isn't) Personally I've always stuck with AMD as running the same program on my home AMD machine runs noticably faster than my Intel based work PC. My Intel machine has more cores but none of the software I use can use more than one core at a time anyway. The only real way is to try the same sort of program on both and time it especially as its only as fast as the slowest component so it might be that memory or graphics speed is more important for what you want to do.
  5. They both are can do 64 bit or 32 bit. Which depends on if you get the 64 bit or 32 bit version of your OS. Intel tends to be top of the market. It is typically better (ahead tech and speed-wise). AMD is more for those who don't need the supreme processing power (i.e. most people).
