Computer processor comparison?
I'm planning on buying a new computer during the back to school sale. Since one of the primary component in determining the price & performance of a computer is the type processor used, I was wondering if someone could explain which processors are better and what the numbers mean: Intel Pentium Intel Pentium Dual-Core T____ Intel Core 2 Duo P____, T____ And also what is the number followed by the T____, and P____ indicate, for example Intel Pentium T4200

- the number is the series number of that family. Higher number = better. Intel core 2 duo is the most mature processor. then intel pentium dual core
- This Site explains the Different Processors pretty well http://kb.wisc.edu/showroom/page.php?id=4927 This one is the INTEL site http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn/family-desktop.htm#/Desktop/ This the INTEL site that shows more info http://ark.intel.com/
- Just depends what you are going to be doing. I would say you at least need a Dual Core processor. I would tell you to go with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 or higher (good multitasking processor, open several applications at once) T series - older but still a great processor. P series - newer processor, uses less power, better battery life, offers the same performance as the T series. The higher the number = better performance. Also dont think that more ghz = better, not always the case. Also the more L2 cache = better. The Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 has 2mb of L2 Cache - FYI
