Intel Computer

Comparison between a g5 powermac and an intel imac?

I was happily using my intel imac 2.0 / 1gb ram/ 160gb hdd until the other day when the screen went out. I took it to the mac store and i was quoted $600 to fix a computer that is worth $500 working. I really dislike how all of the mac computers are difficult to upgrade/fix for a reasonable price and I really want to continue using a mac. I was looking at the g5 powermac's and i was wondering were the 1.8 single or dual with 4gb of ram and a 256mb graphics processor stacked up against my imac. Thanks

  1. The new intel ones will be much faster. I think all the intel ones are dual core, But your imac is quite old by todays standards i would just replace it. The powermacs are older than yours but an imac is not a high end machine. So its hard to say. I would hesitate to get a g5 one i think it is ok now but will become very old very fast. I would just get a pc. Ask yourself what do you do on your mac you couldnt just as easily do on a pc. And Pcs are about half the price as a mac with exactly the same hardware and which is exactly the same speed.
