Would this processor be better then this processor?

before we go on my motherboard only supports Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Pentium D, i know its crappy. and i can't get a new one because im on a small budget. now right now i have a Intel Pentium 4 640 @ 3.2GHz and i want to know that if i switch the processor to a Intel Pentium D 940 @ 3.2GHz would it make a difference? here is a comparison http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/cpu-charts-2008-q1-2008/compare,382.html?prod[1298]=on&prod[1285]=on can you guys really look into this, my comp is slow right now, yes i reformated my hard drive, i just want it to go a lil faster and get better framerates in some games, the cpu is also 90nanometers and is a 775 lga socket, would a 65nanometer pentium d work with mine? i also have 2 gigs of ram and my motherboard is a asterope rs400/rc400/rc410

  1. There would be no difference in performance. The only difference is that the 940 would allow you to run a 64-bit operating system, and it would run slightly cooler. If your comp is slow, you'll probably want to upgrade the ram, as well as running things like spybot, ccleaner, and disk cleanup.
  2. What motherboard have you got?
  3. Pc specs Pentium D 3.2 Ghz 2 GB ram Nvidia 8800 GT As you can see above I have a Pentium D and it is pretty good, with my computer I can run most of the new games at full setting nothing reduced and at a decent framerate. But my friend had a Pentium 4 with the same spec as me 2GB ram etc. and he was compalin that it ran slowly and it wasn't very good for games, So I would go for the Pentium D.
  4. Well getting the basic cost of the up grade. Have you considered buying a bare bones kit. You have a much faster processor than the one you wanted and all you have to do is to connect your hard drive. You will have to study this issue more, about transferring your ram and video card.
